Real Threats, Real Wins: Proactive Security Through Experience

From One Vulnerability to 65,000 Stolen Secrets. Not for Inovasys Clients.

From One Vulnerability to 65,000 Stolen Secrets. Not for Inovasys Clients.

Cyber threats are no longer only manual, targeted, or slow-moving. The Bissa Scanner campaign is a clear example of how modern attackers are using automation, AI-assisted tooling, and large-scale scanning to turn one exposed application into full credential theft.

This campaign targeted internet-facing Next.js applications worldwide, exploiting a critical unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability to gain access, harvest credentials, and exfiltrate sensitive business data. What makes this case especially concerning is not only the scale, but the speed and automation behind it.

Through Bissa Scanner, attackers were able to scan vulnerable environments, execute payloads, search for credential files, identify cloud and container indicators, and send stolen data to attacker-controlled storage. The result was massive exposure across hundreds of organizations and thousands of stolen secrets.

At Inovasys, global threats like Bissa Scanner become more than cybersecurity reports. They become actionable protection layers within our Threat Detection & Response ecosystem. By analyzing the campaign’s behavior across the attack lifecycle, we help ensure that our clients are protected against the techniques used in automated credential theft campaigns.

How the Bissa Scanner Campaign Worked

The attack began with the exploitation of vulnerable internet-facing Next.js applications. Once access was achieved, the attacker’s tooling moved quickly through automated stages designed to:

  • Exploit public-facing applications
  • Execute reconnaissance payloads
  • Search for exposed .env files and credential sources
  • Identify cloud, Kubernetes, and container environments
  • Harvest API keys, tokens, and cloud credentials
  • Communicate through Telegram-based command and control
  • Exfiltrate stolen data to attacker-controlled cloud storage

The campaign showed how one vulnerability can become the starting point for a much larger compromise. A single exposed application can lead to credential theft, cloud exposure, customer data risk, financial fraud exposure, and broader supply chain impact.

This is the new reality of cybercrime: automated tools can search, exploit, collect, and exfiltrate at scale before many organizations even realize they have been exposed.

How Inovasys Turns This Threat Into Protection

At Inovasys, the Bissa Scanner scenario has been mapped into our Cybersecurity Use Case Framework to strengthen client protection against similar automated credential theft patterns.

Our detection and defense coverage supports visibility across key behaviors associated with this campaign, including:

  • Suspicious file creation by web application processes
  • Web server processes spawning shell interpreters
  • Web application access to credential files
  • Connections to Telegram Bot API infrastructure
  • Suspicious communication with cloud storage services
  • Web application access to cloud instance metadata endpoints
  • Command execution attempts from web-facing processes
  • Potential exfiltration behavior through cloud-based channels

By translating the Bissa Scanner campaign into practical detection use cases, Inovasys helps clients reduce exposure, identify suspicious behavior earlier, and respond before automated theft becomes a wider business incident.

This proactive approach reflects how cybersecurity should work today. It is not about waiting for an attack to reach your environment. It is about learning from global threats and turning them into stronger protection for the organizations we serve.

Your Credentials, Protected Against Automated Theft

Every new global attack strengthens the Inovasys defense stack.
Every threat we study becomes another layer of protection for our clients.

Bissa Scanner proves that attackers are automating credential theft at scale. Inovasys ensures that its clients are prepared with the detection, visibility, and response capabilities needed to defend against these evolving threats.

Because in today’s threat landscape, one exposed application should never become full credential theft.
Not for Inovasys clients.
